Most titles in the 21st century: Ashour ahead of Ibrahimovic - No English player in top 50
In terms of market value, Hossam Ashour has left only very manageable traces on the map of world football. The 34-year-old defensive midfielder reached his highest value at the beginning of 2018 – the Cairo-born, two-footed player was valued at €1.2 million at the time. An amount that will probably only bring a weary smile to Ashour’s face, as the veteran has won 34 titles in his career in the 21st century, all with his home club El Ahly Cairo.
This means that the player, who has been without a club since July, has outperformed numerous international former and active top stars, who in the course of their careers have shifted their market values into completely different spheres, but who won a few awards less at club and international level.
At the age of 38, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will try to add at least one more trophy to his title collection in his 22nd year as a professional. The Swedish goal scorer won 33 of them with his clubs so far. His most successful period were four years at Paris Saint-Germain, which resulted in four championships. Now he starts a new attempt with AC Milan.
Title collectors of the 21st century with Messi & Co - Barça leading the way
The top 50 ranking of players with the most titles in the 21st century includes a total of 1385 awards. The top 5 are dominated by current or former FC Barcelona players – surprisingly followed by Ashour. Club icon Lionel Messi ranks third, having won 37 titles in total. Not a single English player is included in the ranking.
